Hey fellow explorers,
I just got back from 11 days at Kunje Guest Farm. Usually, I’m only out there for a quick weekend, but this time I decided to extend my visit to 11 days.
It was harvest season, so the farm was incredibly busy. It was a good reality check and a reminder that there’s a whole world of work happening outside of sitting in front of a computer screen. People always say "go out and touch some grass," and I definitely did that. It made me realise how much things like Netflix and YouTube are often just a major distraction from actually being present.

The "Signs" Vibe
One evening, I was walking through the fruit orchards at sunset. There was a slight wind blowing through the trees, and the atmosphere was just... eerie. It gave me that specific feeling of being in a scene from the movie Signs—it was actually a bit scary 👽. Do you remember the scene when Mel Gibson walks through the fields late at night with his flashlight?
I ended up playing around with some AI the next day to see if I could recreate that "Signs" feeling I experienced.

I also put together a playlist of what I was listening to during those walks. It’s a playlist that fits that "something is out there" mood perfectly.
Trails and Kindle Reading
Living in Mouille Point, I’m usually out on the Promenade every day. But after a while the promenade gets boring. Out at Kunje, running through the orchards is a much more enjoyable workout and more peaceful when you’re the only person for kilometers.
The best part of the quiet, though, was the reading. I’m a big fan of the Kindle—I love being able to hear about a book and start reading it 30 seconds later, even in the middle of a fruit farm. I spent a lot of time by the pool reading through:
“Same as Ever" by Morgan Housel: A great look at how human behavior stays the same even when the world changes.
"The 48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene: A classic I finally had the headspace to actually digest.
Having that much quiet time helped me think a lot more clearly about things like investment decisions. It’s amazing how much easier it is to be rational when you aren't being bombarded by notifications.
Below is the playlist I listened to:
The Night Sky
I spent a few nights recording night-lapses with my GoPro and used my Seestar to get some shots of deep space.

Seestar S30

C92 Nebula

Galaxy NGC 1532

The Soundtrack of LekkerSpots
I mentioned the Spotify playlists, but I also leaned heavily into some specific YouTube mixes during my 11 days.
If you’re a fan of the Chillwave or Synthwave aesthetic, these are perfect for when you’re staring at the stars:

Last Thoughts
These 11 days at Kunje reminded me of the noise we are exposed to every day, not just in Cape Town but especially our smartphones. Whether it's clearing your head to make big decisions or just getting away from the city noise, sometimes you just need to find a dirt road and silence.
Stay curious,
Adrian
